PURPOSE:To reduce the size of a printer, by performing spacing of a print head and a sheet of recording paper and paper feed attended with the reciprocal movement of a carriage mounting the printing head and changing the number of paper feed operations, for performing character printing and picture recording. CONSTITUTION:A platen 21 is fitted to a platen holder 20 and the holder is axially supported freely rotatably to a shaft 22. A screw shaft 29 rotated by a motor 28 is placed at a position opposite to the platen 21 and the carriage 30 is reciprocated along the shaft 29. The carriage 30 is provided with the printing head 32 and when the carriage 30 returns to the home position after the end of one line's share of print, the holder 20 is detached from the head 32 with the engagement between a projection 33 and an engaging section 27, the shaft 22 is turned by a prescribed angle and the recording paper 24 is fed by one line's share with a paper feed roll 24. The amount of paper feed is set to a prescribed value and the number of times of paper feed operations is changed, allowing to perform the normal character printing and the printing required for the picture recording. |
