PURPOSE:To make it possible to prepare a microlens array having improved properties, by introducing plural base materials for optical fibers having a core part and clad part into a quartz tube, fusing the base materials to the quartz tube under heating to eliminate the gaps, and drawing the resultant fused materials and tube. CONSTITUTION:Base materials 32 for optical fibers consisting of a core part 34 having the second power distribution of refractive index and a clad part 36 with a lower viscosity than the core part 34, and consisting wholly of a quartz type material are prepared. The resultant plural base materials 32 are introduced into a quartz tube 38 and heated in a heating furnace with a quartz rod 37 in the center thereof, and then drawn to fuse the gaps. The quartz tube 38 fused to the base material 32 and quartz rod 37 is then cut to a given length to give the aimed microlens array, consisting of lens parts 30 and a base part 20 of circular cross section, and having improved properties. |
