PURPOSE:To reduce the initial impact load being added to a steering column, by overlapping slide plates each other on both sides of a setting piece and a capsule plate constituting a supporting device bearing the above caption, while making the capsule plate slidable in a direction toward the front in relation to a car body. CONSTITUTION:At the underside of a dash panel 19, a capsule plate 21 and a setting piece 15a of a bracket 15 overlap each other while both end parts of an impact absorbing plate 25 being bent in U-shaped form are secured to a space between each of front end parts of both these elements 21 and 15a. On the other hand, slide plates 30 being bent in U-shaped form each are overlapped on both sides of the said capsule plate 21 and at the same time, identical slide plates 29 are overlapped on the setting piece 15a too. If doing like this, in the case where impact load is added to a steering column 13, first the bracket 15 and the capsule plate 21 are moved forward together as one body, then the rear end edge of a long slit 32 of the capsule plate 21 butts a bolt 24, a point thereat the bracket 15 alone further moves frontward and at this time, an impact absorbing plate 25 is deformed to some extent and well absorbs the impact force. |
