PURPOSE:To obtain long-life, large-area color display without using any polarizing plate by using a transparent electrode substrate consisting of P type and storage type liquid crystal and colored glass. CONSTITUTION:Numbers of 300-500mum line width transparent electrodes consisting a mixture of, for example, In2O3 and SnO2 are provided on the internal surfaces of parallel flat glass substrates 1 at slight intervals in parallel and surface treating agents 2 oriented films ar provided thereupon. The substrates 1 are provided orthogonally in parallel with the transparent electrodes on the inward, while about 10mum thickness separators 3 are interposed so that numbers of formed thin line patterns form a matrix mutually, and liquid crystal 4 is sealed between them. The liquid crystal is a P type and storage type and no polarizing plate is used; and the substrates 1 are both made of colored glass for transmission display and only the display side substrate is made of colored glass for reflection type display. The liquid crystal uses cyanosilohexane liquid crystal, cyanobiphenyl liquid crystal, cholesteric liquid crystal, etc. |
