STITCH PATTERN GERNATING SYSTEM FOR A SEWING MACHINE

A sewing machine has a scanner reading a data carrier reversibly rotated by a stepping motor. The data is in a group for each stitch pattern in a defined region of the carrier so that it can be read sequentially in one reciprocating rotation. Control circuitry rotates the carrier in sequences for each pattern. A manual pattern selector actuates the motor to rotate the carrier to a position in which the scanner can pick up the starting information, and rotation is through a small angle per step of the motor. Maximum rotation per step of the carrier is pref. twice the minimum rotation angle per step of the motor.
