This invention relates to a method of production of a heel or toe of a sock or similar product on a circular knitting machine with reciprocatory knitting in two feeds, the first portion of the heel being knitted with narrowing the number of stitches and the second portion with widening the number of stitches. The invention solves the aesthetic arrangement of the stitches in the connection of both portions, which is achieved so that during the course of narrowing, one stitch in each feed is excluded during each stroke in either direction and during the course of widening, first when knitting in each of the first two strokes, one stitch in each feed is excluded and three stitches are added and further in each subsequent stroke a stitch is excluded in only one of the feeds and three stitches are added. The stitches may be excluded or added by pickers.
