PURPOSE:To make a backward mechanism into compact in size as well as to simplify both forward and backward operations, by setting an engine starting sel-motor down to a driving source, and rotating an engine drive shaft in reversing this motor, while setting a transmission to neutral. CONSTITUTION:In this device, there is provided with a transfer device 15 which can directly connect an output shaft 5 of a sel-motor 4 selectively to the drive shaft led out of an engine via a selector gear shaft 7. And, with input out of a feeding reverse rotational circuit, the sel-motor 4 is rotated in the reverse direction to that at the time of starting, rotating the drive shaft 1 in the backward direction. In this case, a one-way clutch with a built-in sprocket 6 comes off, thereby preventing any interference of engine turning force from occurring. Simultaneously, a transmission in the reverse rotational circuit is set to neutral with a neutral switch, whereby c.w. rotation out of the engine is made so as not to be transmitted to the drive shaft 1. Therefore, a backward mechanism can be made into compact in size, and the engine is left rotated intact even during backward motion, thereby operating the transfer device 7 and the transmission, thus forward and backward both are repeatable at discretion.
