PURPOSE:In an adjusting mechanism for the damping force of a hydraulic shock absorber, to produce its large damping force by moving a piston toward a contraction side to an oil chamber made of magnetic material to shorten the length of the effective magnetic path of a solenoid, and thereby strengthen the valve closing force of a damping valve. CONSTITUTION:The inside of an outer tube 1 is partitioned into two oil chambers A and B by a piston 3, and the outside of the outer tube 1 is provided with an oil reservoir C in which gas has been enclosed. Both the outer tube 1 and the piston 3 are made of magnetic material. In addition, the inside of the oil chamber B between a damping valve 9 and the piston 3 is provided with a solenoid 16. The solenoid 16 is fixed to a position detecting rod 4 through a holder 18 made of non-magnetic material, and supplied electric current by a battery. Consequently, when the piston 3 moves toward a contraction side to the oil chamber B, the length of the effective magnetic path of the solenoid 16 is shortened, and thereby magnetic force pressing the damping valve 9 in a valve closing direction is strengthened. Therefore, the valve closing force of the damping valve 9 becomes stronger with the progression of a compression stroke to produce the larger damping force. |
