PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound, simply by reacting 2-nitroundecane prepared by reacting a 3-oxo-1-undecane with nitroethane in high yield at a low cost as a raw material with an alkali, and hydrolyzing the resultant product with an acid. CONSTITUTION:1,2-Nitro-5-undecanone is reacted with an alkali, e.g. an alkali metallic hydroxide or carbonate or alcoholate, preferably in an aqueous solvent, e.g. water, methanol, ethanol or dioxane, to give an alkali nitronate, which is then hydrolyzed with an acid to afford 2,5-undecanedione. USE:A precursor for dihydrojasmone which is important in compounding jasmine type perfumes. |
