A device for measuring the relative displacements between a rotor (1) and a stator (2) of a rotary machine in a direction perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the rotor (1) comprises a sensor (3) fastened to the stator (2), a pad (4) rubbing against the rotor (1), and a rod (5) which under the effect of elastic means presses radially against the pad (4) with its end located opposite the sensor (3), so that the latter measures the air gap separating it from this. The invention is used for eliminating interference signals attributable to magnetic spots and triboelectric effects on the rotor (1). It also eliminates the influence of local mechanical defects of the rotor (1).
