The invention relates to a device for controlling a galvanometer iris 3 or diaphragm, having no restoring spring, of a photographic or video camera, especially of the portable, self-powered type, with the option of automatic (slaved) or manual control. It comprises: a dual loop for slaving, one of which, to the incident light intensity, comprises an optical sensor 6 whose signal is compared with the adjustable one provided by a set-point generator 4, and the other of which compares the error signal resulting from the previous comparison with a signal provided by a tachogenerator 16. In manual operating mode the error signal is replaced by means of an invertor 13 by voltages selectively of opposite polarities, while keeping the speed slaving loop operating. Application in particular to portable television cameras possibly associated with video recorders. <IMAGE>
