The basis of the process is that swellable plastics or hard waxes, which are matched to the various solvents, are used as absorption mass for purifying effluent which is contaminated with solvent. The absorbents can be used individually in the form of a layer or as a multipack in the form of layers such as an activated carbon layer (1), a granular PVC layer (2), an activated carbon layer (3), a granular ABS layer (4) and a polyurethane foam layer (5). <IMAGE>
