The invention relates to the drying of sugar refining pulps. In order to allow the use, for drying the pulps, of the hot gases produced by the combustion of distillery vinasses, these hot gases are mixed with fumes leaving the pulp drier 16 or with cool air to lower their temperature below 500 DEG C, and the mixture obtained is treated in a dust removal unit 12 to remove at least 70% of the ashes entrained by the hot gases, then reheated to the temperature required for drying the pulps by combustion of a fuel injected at 15 into the mixture. <IMAGE>
