The sterilisation of the surface of objects is produced by the contact at low temperature and low pressure with a gas plasma (7) containing small quantities of an aldehyde (9). The gas plasms is a gas which is partially ionised by an electromagnetic discharge in frequencies from 1 to 300,000 megahertz. In contrast to most gas-sterilisation methods, this method is reliable, makes it possible to treat heat-sensitive objects rapidly, does not have corrosive effects, and leaves no toxic residue. <IMAGE>
