PURPOSE:To enable to detect a defect of an exciter during operation by detecting a signal that the armature of a brushless exciter is excited and a signal that a synchronous machine is excited, comparing them, and obtaining the signal. CONSTITUTION:A brushless exciter 1 having rotor coils 5, 6 and a rectifier 7 is rotated on the same shaft to excite the stator coil 4, thereby generating a revolving field in a synchronous machine 2. The fact that the exciter 1 is excited at this time is detected by a detector 8, the output is inputted to a comparator 10, and the fact that the machine 2 is excited is detected by a detecting coil 13, inputted via a detector 9 to the comparator 10, which compares both, thereby outputting defect signal. Accordingly, when the disconnection of rotor coils 5, 6 and the malfunction of the rectifier 7 causes the defect of the exciter 1, it is reliably detected even during the operation. |
