The invention relates to pharmaceutical compositions containing a 5-pyrazolone derivative of formula: <IMAGE> in which R1 and R2, which may be identical or different, represent a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group, R3 represents a phenyl group, unsubstituted or substituted with one or two lower alkyl groups, or a 2-pyridyl or 3-pyridyl or 4-pyridyl group, unsubstituted or substituted with one or two lower alkyl groups, and R4 represents a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group, a phenyl group or an aralkyl group, or one of its pharmaceutically acceptable salts. The derivative of formula I is obtained by reacting an ethyl carboxylate with an ester, and then reacting a hydrazine. Use in therapy, in particular for the treatment of heart failure.
