The invention relates to a dosimeter for determining the time-weighted mean of pollutants in the form of gases and vapours. The object of the invention is to provide a device which can be constructed by the user without a manufacturer and which is notable for particularly low cost and high accuracy. The solution according to the invention is to use a generally available, surface-compacted sized paper having known air permeability as diffusion-inhibiting membrane. Situated immediately behind the membrane is active carbon as a collecting medium. A known and readily available sealing frame is added to the membrane and collecting medium to form a dosimeter. The said membrane offers the prerequisite for a short response time, thereby ensuring an excellent integrating mode of operation of the dosimeter. As a result, the true average concentration of pollutants in the air is reproduced with high accuracy.
