Relieving lathe for the relief-turning and relief-grinding of milling tools and similar parts, which has independent, path-controlled axes which are driven in a rotary manner by servomotors and are provided with a CNC system known per se. The independently driven axes are electrically connected to the path control via measuring systems and the work spindle (4) via a rotation sensor (17.1). Via a backlash-free worm gearing (40) with a worm wheel (40.2) sitting on the work spindle (4) and a worm (40.1) sitting on the drive shaft of a drive motor (3.1), the work spindle (4) can be driven by the motor (3.1), the drive shaft of which is connected to the rotation sensor (17.1). <IMAGE>
