Gas cylinders, the gas outlet valve of which is no longer to be opened, have to be emptied somehow. On account of the cylinder contents under pressure, this is especially difficult in the case of poisonous gases. Used for this purpose in large cylinders with a neck thread is a device with which the gas outlet valve is bored open and the outflowing gas is caught under a screwed-on cap and drawn off. But there are many cylinders without a neck thread, which therefore cannot be emptied in the way described. So that gas cylinders without a neck thread can also be emptied, the gas cylinder is fastened in a clamping device. A drilling unit, consisting of drill guide (8), drill (18) and drill extension (10), can be screwed into the clamping device perpendicularly to the cylinder wall. In the process, a gas-tight connection between drill guide and cylinder wall is formed by means of a seal (9) inserted into the drill guide. Furthermore, the drill guide has a gas outlet connection (12). As soon as the cylinder wall is drilled through, the gas located in the gas cylinder can be drawn off through the cylinder wall.
