PURPOSE:To improve the time stability of a photosensitive silver halide material by chemically aging a blue-sensitive emulsion contg. silver chlorobromide particles sensitized with a merocyanine dye and by adding a water soluble bromide to the aged emulsion. CONSTITUTION:Silver chlorobromide particles are sensitized with a merocyanine dye represented by the formula (where Z1 is a group of atoms requied to form a benzoxazole ring, a naphthoxazole ring, a benzothiazole ring or the like, Z2 is a group of atoms required to form a rhodanine ring, a 2-thiohydantoin ring or an oxazolidine ring, and each of R1 and R2 is alkyl, alkenyl or aryl), and the sensitized particles are added to a blue-sensitive emulsion. The emulsion is chemically aged, and a water soluble bromide such as sodium bromide or potassium bromide is added to the aged emulsion by 1-80mol% of the amount of silver chloride forming the silver chlorobromide particles to obtain the desired photosensitive silver halide material. |
