The invention relates to a coal dust ignition burner for operation with moist coal dust. Dust moisture contents of up to 25% with a size class B particle are to be permissible without the use of a permanent ignition burner. A preheating of the burner and of the coal dust and also a control of the quantitative throughput of coal dust and air are to be ensured by way of a controllable medium. Furthermore, an inner and outer recirculation are achieved, in order to ensure a rapid heating up of the components of the ignition burner. This is achieved when the outlet of the intake pipe is provided with a controllable steam-operated ejector ring nozzle, and the ejector ring nozzle is connected to an inner pipe and/or the outlet of the inner pipe is connected to a muffle which forms a re-entrant. The muffle is, or is not, provided with heat storing material, and the re-entrant is formed by a widening of the muffle towards the inner pipe in a diameter proportion of 1.5:2.5. Since the ignition burner is used directly for conveying a mixture of coal dust and conveying gas, a simple plant technology combination is possible. <IMAGE>
