NEW MATERIAL:(4S)-Hydroxyethyl-(5S or 5R)-ethenyl-1-oxa-2-cyclohexene shown by the formula I or formula II. USE:An intermediate for biosynthesis of conrynanthine type indole alkaloid such as corynanthidine, corynantheidine, etc. Further an intermediate for (4S or 4R)4- ethenyl-2,8-dioxabicycolo[3,3,1]nonane, one of flavor components in Swertia japonica Makino, being expected to have pharmaceutical activity effective for digestive organ system, especially for the stomach and intestines system. PROCESS:Ice water is added to the whole dried Swertia japonica Makino, which is ground by a blender, made into a muddy state, and subjected to steam distillation. The distillate is saturated with salt, extracted with an ether, and the solvent is distilled away under reduced pressure, to give a purified oil of Swertia japonica Makino. This is subjected to column chromatography or partial chromatography using silica gel, to give a compound shown by the formula I or formula II. |
