For the method and the apparatus for analysing whole and fractionated proteins, provision is made to use a stiff, flat electrophoresis support which consists of a cellulose acetate strip (5) or the like which can rest on two solid rods (802) which are very capable of suction and which are arranged in an electrolysis bath in such a way that they project beyond the upper liquid level (806) of the bath. In particular, the support may be made from an elastic strip holder (5) in which the strip (6) is attached by two rows of holes (61) situated thereon into which pegs (501) provided on the two opposite sides of the strip holder (5) are introduced. The various analytical operations for the whole and fractionated proteins are achieved in that the support or supports (5) for the electrophoresis and other accessories (lacuna) by a conveying means (13) which preferably has magnetic grippers (1303) which coact with the iron parts (503) provided on the individual supports (5) or on the movable accessories. <IMAGE>
