A wood burning stove converted for coal burning, comprises a removable assembly including a grate assembly (140), means ensuring passage of primary air upwards through the grate assembly, a slotted baffle (142) forming a barrier between primary and secondary combustion chambers, its slots (188) allowing smoke to pass from the primary to the secondary chamber, and a hopper (172, 174). The grate assembly includes four upstanding sides (160, 162, 164) and elongated elements (152, 154, 156) supported to tilt in unison (for riddling) about separate pivot axes. A gap (252) is left between the grate front (162) and the elements (152, 154, 156) to accept a poker.

|
