PURPOSE:To prevent mis-recognition or the like for the reading range, by providing a means displaying directly the reading range of an original. CONSTITUTION:A picture reader 1 has an original platen 3 on which an original 2 is placed, and slide resistors 5A, 5B, 5D, 5E and their knobs 5f, 5g, 5h, 5i are provided around the plate 3. The operator abserves the original 2 on the platen 3 and moves the knobs 5f-5i of the resistors and sets a reading range RA on the original 2. The positions of the knobs 5f-5i are converted into X and Y coordinates X1, X2, Y1, Y2 by a coordinate converting circuit 6 and the reading range of a reading element 12 is discriminated. |
