There is disclosed a recording medium for optical information by recording and reproducing information with a high density energy beam wherein a recording layer has a highly reflective surface and the recording layer is a layer which is prepared by subjecting a layer containing physical development nucleus to a physical development process by which physical development proceeds throughout its entire region. This improved recording medium can photographically record necessary information with optionally variable reflectivity.
