A rotary internal combustion engine according to the invention has two working shafts arranged coaxially with one another and with the cylinder axis, of which the one working shaft rotates uniformly and drives a crankshaft, which is arranged parallel to the cylinder axis, with a speed transmission ratio (i = 1 : n) (n = number of pistons rigidly fixed on each working shaft). In turn, the crankshaft drives with at least one crank by means of at least one chain-spring-loop the other working shaft (compression shaft) periodically alternating for 180 DEG of the crankshaft (KW) respectively and in the same direction of rotation as the working shaft.
