Emulsions of the water-in-oil type and emulsifier combinations suitable therefor

Emulsions of the water-in-oil type contain as emulsifier component the magnesium salt of a branched carboxylic acid of the general formula (R<1>-CHR<2>COO)2Mg in which R<1> and R<2> are, independently of one another, linear alkyl groups with 14-22 C atoms. They preferably contain a magnesium salt of a branched carboxylic acid in which R<1> and R<2> are linear alkyl groups with 14-18 C atoms in an amount of 0.1-5.0 % of the weight of the oil phase. A W/O emulsifier combination consisting of a wax-like component, non-ionic W/O emulsifiers and a metal soap contains as metal soap preferably 1-10 % by weight of the magnesium salt of the branched carboxylic acid.
