The invention concerns a method and an apparatus for measuring of the specific surface of pulverized materials such as cement or powdered lime in the construction industry, cocoa powder or dried milk in the food industry, or pulverized coal. The purpose of the invention is to open up the possibility of measuring materials of any structure and with any mass density and thus improve the measurement precision. This purpose is achieved by vibration compacting a loosely poured sample to a well-defined shape, followed by measuring the volume of the sample and the pneumatic resistance of the sample, followed by conversion of the measured and known values into the specific surface in accordance with the given equation. The apparatus for carrying out the method comprises a measurement vessel 2 configured with a sample volume gauge 4, the measurement vessel 2 being secured to the vibrator 3 and the apparatus is furthermore configured with a pressurized air intake in the bottom of the measuring vessel 2, the pressurized air intake being configured with a pneumatic resistance gauge 9, whose output is connected to the first input of the evaluation unit 7, which evaluation unit 7 is configured with a second input connected to the terminal, where the mass density factor of the sample is entered, and also with a third input which is connected to the output of the sample quantity gauge 4. <IMAGE>
