PURPOSE:To prevent a tinned copper wire from gathering rust, by cooling a copper wire in water or a steam atmosphere immediately after tinning to isolate the wire from oxygen and to form a hydrate layer on the surface of the tin. CONSTITUTION:A copper wire 1 is dipped in a molten tin bath 3, passed through drawing dies 4, and immediately fed to an atmosphere isolated from oxygen in a cooler 5, where water is brought into contact with the surface of the wire 1 to form a hydrate layer on the surface of the tin. The resulting tinned copper wire 6 is dried. Boiled distilled water is used most effectively in the cooler 5. The tinned copper wire 6 is prevented from gathering rsut and reducing the solderability. |
