PURPOSE:To separate a character into partial patterns and to heighten the accuracy of recognition, by extracting each system of horizontal and vertical lines in a character that represent the white domain between character strokes when a chinese character to be recognized is searched in the horizontal and vertical directions, and collating the extracted system of lines in the character and the contents of a dictionary for partial pattern separation. CONSTITUTION:Various systems of horizontal lines in a character, for instance, a handwritten character that can be separated into partial patterns are examined beforehand and the systems are registered in dictionary 8 for pattern separation. When a character 1 is inputted, prospective character groups are extracted in a large classification circuit 4, and the possibility of separation of the prospective characters into left and right or up and down partial patterns is determined by a pattern separation discriminating circuit 5, and horizontal and vertical lines in the character are extracted in horizontal and vertical character lines extracting circuit 6, 7, and respective systems are formed. The contents of the dictionary 8 and the systems are extracted by circuits 6 and 7 are collated in a line searching circuit 9 and a partial pattern are determined. The shape of determined partial pattern is judged discriminated by the discriminating circuit basing on the contents of a patial pattern dictionary 10 to recognize input character and a character code is outputted. |
