Nonhygroscopic salts of D-, L- or DL-carnitine, namely: D- or L-carnitine hydrogen fumarate, D- or L-carnitine hydrogen oxalate, D- or L-carnitine hydrogen sulphate, DL-carnitine methanesulphonate, DL-carnitine phosphate and their preparation from D-, L- or DL-carnitinenitrile hydrogen oxalate or perchlorate. The enantiomers of this nitrile are obtained by alternate preferential crystallisations starting with a supersaturated solution of the racemate containing a slight excess of one of the enantiomers and seeds of this enantiomer for initiating the crystallisation.
