The invention relates to a bi-directional valve. It is related to a butterfly valve in which a sealing device 60 is formed between the body 14 of the valve and a retaining ring 40. The sealing device comprises a sealing surface 36 which is applied against the shut-off by an endless spring 50, whilst annular shoulders 35 and 37 limit the movement of the seal and allow the application of the forces of the spring 50 and those due to the pressure of a fluid in a direction which is substantially perpendicular to the surface 36.
