PURPOSE:To connect optical fibers without remodeling any jigs, by putting optical fibers to be connected in a groove after their outer diameter is adjusted to the size of the groove by means of a tube which is contracted by heat fitting to the surface of the cover of the optical fibers. CONSTITUTION:When a V-shaped groove 24 for coated part is made, for example, to suit for a coated part 14 of 0.9mm.phi, several kinds of heat shrinkable tubes 30 made of, for example, crosslinked polyethylene, etc., of different sizes are prepared in advance and one of the tubes 30 is put on the coated part 14 so that the outer diameter of the part becomes 0.9mm. after the tube 30 is contracted. The outer diameter of the tube 30 after contraction can be preestimated when an object, on which the tube 30 is put, is determined. When, for example, the heat shrinkable tube 30 made of crosslinked polyethylene having an inner diameter of 0.9mm. and thickness of 0.15mm. is put on the coated part 14 of 0.45mm. and the tube 30 is contracted by an electric heater, the outer diameter becomes 0.9mm.. Therefore, optical fibers can be connected by using a jig by putting the strand 12 and cover 14 on a coaxial position in such a way. |
