PURPOSE:To eliminate the inconvenience in handling fiber cores when optical fibers are connected with each other, by closely putting a thermo-contracting tube on the core of the fibers to be connected after they are exposed, and then, performing necessary work. CONSTITUTION:This invention relates to the connection of optical fibers 50 having only the primary cover or having the primary cover and secondary cover with a vacant space inbetween. The connection of this invention is performed in such a way that necessary connecting works, such as removal of covers, connection of optical fibers, reinforcement of connected parts, treatment of excess lengths, connection of outer covers 52, etc., are performed with conventional jigs after the outer diameter of the connecting part of the cable 50 is enlarged by exposing the fiber core 10 from the cable 50, closely putting a thermo-contracting tube 60 on the exposed part, and then, contracting the tube 60. Since these works are performed on the fiber core 10 covered with the thermo-contracting tube 60, the fiber core 10 can be handled easily. |
