PURPOSE:To eliminate the necessity of waiting time for a long period at the initial stage and wasteful power consumption and achieve required heating and fixation of toner images, by performing control by stages in accordance with the detected temperature of a heating and fixation device. CONSTITUTION:When the power supply is turned on, the voltage to be supplied to a heating element is set to the 1st value and a heating and fixation device 112 is set to its initial heating condition, and, when the temperature detected by a temperature detector 144 exceeds the 1st prescribed value, the supply voltage to the heating element is changed to the 2nd value and the device 112 is preheated. Furthermore, unless the detected temperature exceeds the 2nd prescribed value before the front end of a sheet member 46 enters the device 112 in the course of image formation process, the supply voltage to the heating element is set to the 3rd values to set the heating element to a heating and fixation condition. When the member 46 passes through the device 112 and a detector 146 detects the rear end of the member 146, the supply voltage to the heating element is set to the 2nd value and the device is set to the preheating condition. Thus control of each stage is performed. |
