The invention relates to a device for repairing the cover surface of a glue roll in a labelling machine for bottles and the like. The device consists of a pivotable carrier which is held by the glue scraper shaft, is supported on ball races of the glue roll and carries a sealable slit nozzle for silicone rubber and a doctor blade downstream of the slit nozzle in the direction of travel of the glue roll, the distance of the doctor blade from the cover surface being adjustable so that after completion of the application of the silicone rubber said blade can be gradually raised from the cover surface. The device permits a damaged and worn cover surface to be provided with a new, smooth coating.
