A heat store, in particular for storing solar energy and industrial heat, consists of an inner, first heat store part (1) and a second heat store part (2) surrounding the same. The first heat store part (1) is filled with a heat storage compound (11) which melts at between 30 and 120 DEG C (e.g. paraffin), and the second heat store part (2) is filled with earth (14). The first heat store part (1) is insulated by the second heat store part (2), so that even after long storage times high temperatures, e.g. for hot service water, still prevail in the first heat store part (1). A control device ensures that the heat transfer medium that is heated by the energy source firstly heats the earth (14) and does not heat the heat storage compound (11) in the first heat store part (1) until the heat transfer medium heated by the energy source has reached a higher temperature than that of the heat storage compound (11). <IMAGE>
