PURPOSE:To decrease markedly a strength deterioration of a fiber during a screening test by performing a dehydrating treatment to remove a surface moisture as a pretreatment of the screening test for a strength guarantee of the optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:The optical fiber element wire consists of the optical fiber 1, a cover 2 and a buffer layer 3. Before the screening test for the strength guarantee, the optical fiber element wire is detained in a dry atmosphere, e.g. dry air, gaseous N2 for about min. one week to diffuse the moisture (OH radical) of the fiber surface into the dry atmosphere and to perform the dehydrating treatment. Thereby, the moisture of the fiber surface having large influence on the strength deterioration of the fiber is removed, and the strength deterioration caused during the screening test can be decreased markedly. |
