The invention relates to a device for monitoring the combustion behaviour of a combustion appliance (5), in which an open flame (9) burns in a boiler space (3) and its flue gases are conducted away through a flue (7). A flame luminosity sensor (11) is arranged in the boiler space (3), and its measured luminosity values are fed to an indicating device (15) outside the boiler space (3). A temperature sensor, arranged in the flue (7), can also be present in place of the flame luminosity sensor. An arrangement is however preferred with both a flame luminosity sensor and also a temperature sensor, which provide their measurement values in common to the indication device (15), the individual measurement values then being additionally processed in a mixer (27) to give a common indication value. <IMAGE>
