A device for measuring intrauterine pressure during pregnancy and during labor prior to the rupture of the amniotic membrane comprises an elongate catheter (2) having a uterine end (4) and an instrumentation end (6). The end (4) of the device is introduced into the uterus. The catheter has an inflatable pressure transmitting membrane (8) and another inflatable membrane (20) for anchoring the end (4) of the catheter in position within the uterus. Flow control means (10, 28, 32) are provided for controlling the fluid used to inflate the membrane (8, 20).
