PURPOSE:To prevent an ocular lens part from burning owing to welding heat and to protect the lens part against an unexpected external force in narrowing- down operation by covering the outer periphery of an endoscope with a cooling jacket which has a gas supply port and a gas exhaust port. CONSTITUTION:The cooling jacket 10 is inserted and fixed to the outside of the endoscope 1 through a seal packing 13 and a fixing jig 12 at the tip part and a gas supply pipe 11 is provided to this cooling jacket 10. Further, the gas exhaust port 15 is bored without impeding the visual field of the endoscope. This gas exhaust port 15 is preferably of necessary irreducible size which does not impede the visual field so as to prevent the cooling efficiency from decreasing. Cooling gas passes through the gas supply pipe 11 and then flows in the cooling jacket 10 from the gas supply port 14 and exits from the gas exhaust port 15. In this case, the jacket is sealed with the seal packing 13 and the supplied gas is discharged efficiently from the the exhaust port.
