PURPOSE:To prevent a catalyst from being deteriorated by a condensate at the time of cooling, by connecting end parts of reaction pipes to each other, passing a fuel gas sequentially in at least two passes, and providing a communicating part for the lower ends of the reaction pipes as a space part not packed with a catalyst layer. CONSTITUTION:A gas entering a reaction pipe 8c flows upward through the pipe 8c, and finally enters a collecting chamber 13. On the other hand, a heating gas generated through evaporation at a burner 2 heats an evaporator 1, then enters a central part of a heating chamber 7 through a central passage 14, and while flowing upward, it traverses a multiplicity of reaction pipes 8 radially outward. Then, the heating gas enters an exhaust passage 17 through openings 16, flows downward through the passage 17, and is exhausted through an exhaust port 18. By such heating by the heating gas, the fuel gas is brought into reaction while passing through the reaction pipes 8a, 8b, 8c in at least two passes, and is converted into a reformed gas consisting mainly of a hydrogen gas. |
