PURPOSE:To attain the optimum design by obtaining a minimum value of an object function represented by the sum of object functions at each member element decided by an optimum value and a variable (y) in a region where the limitation condition equation by the variable (y) only is satisfied. CONSTITUTION:In applying the optimum design of a frame structure comprising N-set of member elements, design variables are divided into variables x1, x2,...xN belonging only to each member element and a variable (y) common to the entire frame structure. The limitation condition equation at each member element is decided by using one of the variables x1, x2,...xN and the variable (y) while the variables x1, x2,...xN are independent of each member element and the optimum value of the variable x1, x2,...xN is obtained respectively from the equation while the variable (y) is to be constant. Thus, the optimum design is attained by obtaining a minimum value of the object function represented by the sum of the object functions at each member element decided by the optimum value and the variable (y) in the region where the limitation condition equation of the variable (y) only is satisfied.
