PROCESS FOR THE ELIMINATION OF LIME FROM MAGESIUM CHLORIDE SOLUTIONS

In order to precipitate calcium ions from aqueous solutions of magnesium chloride, which may also contain alkali metal ions or other ions, dialkylphosphoric acid is used in an organic water-immiscible solvent. The calcium extraction selectivity is rectified by maintaining the hydrochloric acid concentration in the solution to be treated. In an illustrative embodiment, a decrease in the calcium chloride content from an initial value of 24.1 g of CaCl2.l<-1> to 0.22 g of CaCl2.l<-1> at a concentration of the aqueous magnesium chloride solution of 430 g of MgCl2.l<-1> is mentioned. Areas of possible applications: chemistry of magnesium compounds, production of basic refractory materials, production of metallic magnesium.
