Method for measuring the attenuation in optical fibres, a light pulse being coupled into the optical fibre to be measured and the backscattered light component of a photodetector being measured at the start of the fibre and converted into an electrical signal, and then being further processed in order to determine the attenuation constant, the electrical signal generated by the photodetector having its logarithm taken directly and subsequently being further processed.
