This catalyst uses (A) an organo-Al component, and (B) a solid reaction prod. of (1) Ti (IV) halide or haloalcoholate, (2) O-, N-, S-, or P-contg. organic electorn donor, and (3) hydrocarbon Mg-contg. pretreatment prod. of (a) Mg alcoholate and (b) Cp II or III A metal alkyl. Atomic ratio of metal in(3) (b) to metal in (3) (a) is -.001-1:1; atomic ratio of Ti in (1) to metal in (3) (a) is at least 0.5:1; and (2) is used in 0.001-1 mole per g-atom Ti contained in (1). The catalyst is used for the sterospecific polymerization of alpha olefins contg. 3 or more c. Isotactic prods., giving sufficient bulk density to facilitate handling and processing Catalyst residue removal is unnecessary.
