The invention relates to a device for the identification of a geographical location. It consists of a housing (3,4) with an opening (5,6) on the viewing side, through which opening a section, predetermined by geographical coordinates, of a foil-like map (22,29) which is displaceably arranged in the housing (3,4) there can be observed. The foil-like map (29) can be mounted in a cassette whose drive rollers can be mounted on pins (8,9;10,11) arranged on the housing (3). The pins (9,11) can be turned by a motor drive, so that a displacement of the foil-like map (22) results. It is also possible to form the housing (4) from a drawer compartment (18) for the purpose of holding the foil-like map (22) and a projection compartment (19). The opening (6) is associated with the projection compartment (19). A light source (21) for the foil-like map (22) to be viewed can be arranged below the drawer mounting (20) of the projection compartment (19). <IMAGE>
