A self-running robot placed on a cart (6) is moved from one cell to another (1-9) to perform various predetermined machining proceses, guided by a signal current through a guide wire (c) installed on the floor. A node map showing the distance between any two of the cells (a) is stored in the memory of a CPU (e) and the robot (b) is guided so that it takes the shortest route between the successive cells. A cell control unit (9) limits the flow of the signal current in a region between the two adjacent nodes (h) which are provided on the guide wire at positions corresponding the cells.
