A solid elastomeric terpolymer comprising 13 to 48 wight percent of styrene, 45 to 85 weight percent of butadiene and a minor proportion of a metal or amine neutralized sulphonate monomer having the formula: <CHEM> where X is aromatic or (CH2)n wherein n = 0,1,2,3 or 4, and Y is a cation selected from groups IA, IIA, IB and IIB of the periodic table e.g a metal neutralised styrene sulphonate, or an amine of the formula; <CHEM> where R1 and R2 are C1 to C12 aliphatic groups or hydrogen, said co- or terpolymer being water insoluble and having at least 0.5 weight percent but less than 5 weight percent of chemically combined sulphur.
